X Factor 3 Preview - Nikitta Angus

Odds16/1 (Outright), 6/1 (16-24 Winner)

Nikitta is 17 years old, unemployed and from Glasgow. She is an outsider to win the X Factor outright and placed fourth out of four to win the 16-24 category according to the bookmakers.

The X Factor loves a good sob story to stir the emotions of the viewers and Nikitta certainly has one. She lost her mother to cancer last year and now lives alone in Glasgow in the house her mum used to live. Nikitta names her mother as the reason she has entered the X Factor because she wants to succeed for her.

Nikitta claims winning the X Factor would be like a dream come true and before her mother died she made her promise never to give up on singing. She feels entering the X Factor is fulfilling her dying wish.

She comes from a musical background in that her aunty, grandmother and mother used to sing. Nikitta found she had a passion for singing when she performed karaoke at the age of seven and was told she had a good voice and should pursue it further. When she was 10 Nikitta noticed she could hold some of the keys when singing along to her record and since then has attended singing classes and performed at small venues.

Nikitta names her musical influences as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Ashanti and Celine Dion but the person she admires the most on stage is Beyonce Knowles. She claims her favourite album is the "Spice Girls" because it is the first one she ever bought.

She auditioned in Glasgow by singing Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" and all three judges were impressed. Simon Cowell complimented her by saying: "the song was beautiful, your voice is great and your Mum would be very proud of you".

On the first day of Bootcamp, Nikitta sang "Believer" by Christina Milian and even though both Simon and Sinitta put her through to the next stage, they both agreed that while she was great, she chose the wrong song.

For the final task of Bootcamp, Nikitta sang "Hero" by Mariah Carey and then went on to sing Carol King's "It's Too Late" and "Angel"' by Sarah McLachlan.

If she won the X Factor she would use some of the money to buy her grand mother a house because she is currently living in rented accommodation and as Nikitta says: "I would love for her to have a home of her own one day".
