Israel - Hezbollah War - Why It Won't Ceasefire Till Christmas

Author: Kevin Carter

Nobody on this planet today is ready to listen to what President George Bush and Prime Minister of 51st state of United States Tony Blair have to say regarding the fighting between Hezbollah and Israel.

According to Lebanese government 900 hundred people have died in this conflict started on 12th July and 35 to 40% of them were children. The number of casualties is even higher. Why the so called two of the most powerful man on this planet have not been able to intervene, let alone brokering a cease fire.

The bare truth is that none in the Middle East is willing to believe them, let alone trusting them for a peaceful solution of the situation.

The critical question is what has led to this utter mistrust and sheer inability of the superpower to impose itself on the present situation.

Lost Credibility

First and foremost George Bush is not sitting on the wall but is in the Israeli court. Any statement made by him is seen as an affirmation of the Israeli action. This is far from the days when United States was considered a genuine partner in establishing peace and stability in the area under President Clinton.

Occupation of Iraq

Secondly the occupation of Iraq has taken too much teeth out of American military fire power to reign in the two main backers of Hezbollah Iran and Syria. In present geo-political situation Iran can safely sleep as it has no threat from anybody on its nuclear program and can indulge Israel in a guerrilla war away from its own borders.

Going by the above reasons, the end of this conflict doesnt seem nearer as Israel will keep pounding Lebanon to get its two soldiers back on the back of 2000 Lebanese civilian deaths and Hezbollah will keep resisting the Israel with the knowledge that indulging Israel means taking pressure off from its main benefactor Iran and its nuclear weapons.
