Grandfather Paradox, Time Travel and The Human Mind

Author: Lance Winslow

Many people who engage in intellectual thought like to discuss time. For some reason many people have been trapped in thought over the Grandfather Paradox of time travel; that is to say; what if you go back in time and meet your grandfather before he impregnates your grandmother with what will become one of your parents and kill him? Thus you would not exist.

From WikiPedia: The grandfather paradox is a paradox of time travel, supposedly first conceived by the science fiction writer Rene Barjavel in his book "Future times three" ("Le voyageur imprudent" 1943).

It is curious to me why people get caught up in such things and cannot move beyond them. And this is merely one famous such question, as there are others involving the Big Bang and thousands in religious beliefs and writings. For instance if the Big Bang really did happen, what went bang and how did it get there, what made it go bang and what was before the Big Bang? One common question for religious believers is; If God made man, then who made God? It is so interesting the answers to all these questions of the Grandfather Paradox, what went Bang and who made your god?

What is truly unfortunate is how so many people allow them selves to become so caught up in such things that they cannot move forward and spend countless hours dwelling on these thoughts. This is a waste of productivity in many respects because we cannot know the answer to these things without additional and un provided information. To say that the Grandfather Paradox would create another realm or new round in the virtual reality video game of the life experience is one explanation, for which we cannot prove. For what went bang some say an infinitely dense and tiny mass. For the answer of who made your god, they take the easy way out; God has always been and will always be!

It is interesting that most human minds cannot get past these questions and how so many get caught into a trap and cannot reason past them or accept that they do not know without further input and information. So many humans retreat and accept such types of questions as the upper limits of human understanding and refuse to move past them. This is a travesty and proves that humans are easily swayed by uncertainty, almost afraid of their own answers and fear to ask the next set of questions.

If they choose to accept one answer to such questions of this type as an absolute then they put themselves into a problematic situation in that all knowledge built on that premise is also built on a non-absolute and therefore cannot be trusted knowledge. Yet if one allows such an unanswerable question to rule their thoughts and become a barrier to future thought then they have provided themselves a worse paradox. So do they choose to know a lie, which could be a partial truth or lie and wait to know the whole truth? Why would an individual allow such questions to impede their productivity to learn what they can know, because in doing so they may discover the answer?

Once you know you are at a point of not knowing what X is then it time to write down that X and move onto the next question which you can answer. Time travel discussions should not be allowed to block the mind, put up a barrier to a forward line of reasoning or cause headaches. Humans must get over these petty things and stop worrying about the Grandfather Paradox. Can anyone tell me what everyones problem is with humans dealing with variables and the need for absolute truths in a relative realm? Why are you so baffled and why do you turn back at the first sign a missing peace of a puzzle that you must solve before moving forward? Think on this in 2006.
